Open Innovation in the Age of AI

Marcus Holgersson, Linus Dahlander, Henry Chesbrough, and Marcel Bogers

Abstract
Artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance, enable, or replace traditional open innovation (OI) practices, expanding the capabilities and efficiency of both outside-in and inside-out OI. This article elucidates AI's impact on OI by offering a framework and illustrative examples, and then outlining implications. The co-evolutionary relationship between AI and OI will be a central focus in both research and practice moving forward.
