Abstract

This article looks at how the brokerage business is changing. Drawing upon results of a survey among real estate professionals, the author reveals an increasing public discontent with poor service, anticompetitive practices, and excess charges, but forecasts that change will be evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Survey participants also predict that specialized professionals will supplant certain of the functions now performed by the broker.
