Environmental Policy Trends Facing Multinationals

Thomas Gladwin

Abstract
This article examines five major trends of importance to multinational corporations. National environmental policies will probably increasingly be: integrated in a more comprehensive and balanced way with other resource, energy and social policies; oriented in emphasis more towards problem prevention rather than cure; focused on the health and environmental impacts of products in their entire life cycles; catalyzed and coordinated through the efforts of regional and international governmental organizations; and diffused among nations more rapidly and widely via numerous transmission channels.
