Soviet-U.S. Joint Ventures: Pioneers on a New Frontier

Abstract
The Soviet Union's recent embrace of joint ventures as a form of private international cooperation has attracted enormous attention. Despite all the fanfare, few joint ventures have commenced operations. This article probes the negotiations for and operations of sixteen Soviet-U.S. joint ventures that have persevered and commenced operations. These joint ventures are the pioneers on this new frontier.
