Open Innovation in the Age of AI

Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance, enable, or replace traditional open innovation (OI) practices, expanding the capabilities and efficiency of both outside-in and inside-out OI. This article elucidates AI's impact on OI by offering a framework and illustrative examples, and then outlining implications. The co-evolutionary relationship between AI and OI will be a central focus in both research and practice moving forward.
