The article reflects on the utilization of the redefined concept of equality and its relation to bureaucracy, to enhance its political power over the American populace. The traditional equalities of opportunity and of treatment before the law are now either submerged in a new equality which requires the creation of equal conditions of income, status, and power for all persons in society and the reduction in the number of "equalities" to one. The author warns about the ultimate injustice of subjecting people to the odd notion of a despotic centralized bureaucracy wielding and extending its power in the name of humanitarian doctrines and principles in which the bureaucracy has no substantive interest or commitment.
