A System Diagram of the Functions of a Manager
Goodman, Richard Alan
10/4  (Summer 1968): 27-38

This article discusses the development of a closed loop feedback system for the operational school of management theory. There are suggestions on how the framework might be used to integrate concepts from other schools of management theory, such as the decision theory school and the mathematical school. A complex set of interrelationships in a closed loop feedback system is developed, and, thereby, this system diagram adds the step of synthesis to the long history of analysis in the field of management theory. The operational school of management theory can be defined by its viewpoint regarding the managerial role. value. The major educational value of this system is the fact that it provides a framework for thought about the management of an organization.
