Oliver Williamson is best known for his work developing the theory of transaction costs and their implications for the organization of economic transactions. His contributions, however, have broader implications for all forms of social organization. A primary example of these broader applications is how Williamson's work provides insights about the organization of political activity. Moreover, this application provides important insights for scholars and managers interested in the appropriate non-market strategy of firms.
