The Cloud Computing Industry

by Wasim Azhar and Akshai Parthasarathy

Globally, the cloud computing industry is projected to reach $330 billion by 2022. Many enterprise software applications now run in remote computing facilities. These 'cloud' applications allow organizations to reduce the complexity of installing and maintaining their own software on organizational computers and networks. Additionally, companies that develop applications can now deploy them to cloud services like Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure, ensuring that the computing resources required to keep their apps online scales as they acquire more users. Under the cloud model, enterprise applications make more efficient use of resources because they can 'scale up' and 'scale down' with use. And clients can pay based on their specific needs for software that is automatically stable, secure, and up-to-date. The widespread adoption of cloud computing makes software simpler to access and deploy around the world, and is expected to continue to develop over the coming years.
